Layout Design and Operations Meet

Chuck Hitchcock

Chuck is a legend in model railroading. In the 50 years he has been an active model railroader he has published scores of articles on the hobby and been featured in several videos including two of Allen Keller’s Great Model Railroads DVD’s. His earlier railroad, called the Santa Fe Argentine Division was a benchmark for layout design and accurate rendition of passenger train operations. Not many model railroaders can boast of this: a scene from his model railroad was even used as the basis for a Hallmark jigsaw puzzle!

His new Argentine Industrial District Railway (AIDRY) occupies a space of about 50'X30' in an around the wall configuration and features 5 industrial switching areas and one receiving yard (5th St Yard) where transfers from the 13 Kansas City railroads arrive and depart. Era is 1960 with all switching and transfers handled by first generation diesels. Railway has recently been converted to Easy DCC with sound and radio throttles.

Chuck earned his Master Model Railroader in 1986. He currently operates a business that custom produces model railroad structures for other modelers. Chuck is truly a gentleman and an inspiration.
